Support for Research

The ACCLAIM Research Initiative facilitates and supports scholarship about mathematics education in the rural context. We...

  • publish original manuscripts that address legitimate issues in rural mathematics education;
  • offer resource advice (aka "technical assistance"), and ongoing conversation to advance such scholarship; and
  • disseminate Center publications widely through the Research Clearinghouse, in the Rural Mathematics Educator, in peer-reviewed journals, at national conferences, and via contributions to the national ERIC database.

Original Manuscripts

The Center's aims to publish original work, especially reports of empirical studies, that address issues of rural mathematics education. Financial support is no longer available, as a rule.  Manuscripts receive professional copyediting before publication in the Center's Working Papers series.  Authors retain copyright and are encouraged to submit manuscripts to suitable peer-reviewed journals.

The Center also seeks articles for the Rural Mathematics Educator on-line magazine. We are particularly interested to review thoughtful articles (1000-2000 words) by math teachers working in rural schools, especially those who regard the Center's outlook as interesting.

Those who contribute original manuscripts--whether teachers, journalists, or university researchers--become ACCLAIM schoars.

Resources for ACCLAIM Scholars

This section provides intellectual resources to help researchers develop and publish studies of mathematics education in the rural circumstance. We provide:

Most studies about math education in rural schooling examine generic issues with a sample that just happens to be rural–and most often, the methods, results, and interpretations have little or nothing to do with rural issues, challenges, dilemmas, or unacknowledged advantages.
