In this information age of instant access to libraries, databases, information centers, organizations, government agencies, and self-appointed experts worldwide, where do you turn for accurate, reliable, and up-to-date information about mathematics education? There are many competing voices hoping to influence the practices and policies of teachers, schools, parents, and administrators, so it seems important to have confidence in one's sources of information. Listed here are some of the key information sources used by parents, researchers, and other professionals. There are many more local, regional, national, and international resources not listed here, but these are reliable starting points in your quest for information.

Publications
NCTM's three Standards documents laid the foundation for the current reform efforts in mathematics education:
The Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics (1989) presents recommendations for improving and updating the mathematics curriculum and the evaluation of students' achievement.
http://www.enc.org/reform/journals/ENC2280/280dtoc1.htm
The Professional Standards for Teaching Mathematics (1991) offers specific suggestions for how mathematics teachers can create successful learning environments for every student and promote their own professional growth.
The Assessment Standards for School Mathematics (1995) describes ways to have a comprehensive mathematics assessment program and provides criteria for judging the quality of mathematics assessment.
The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics has released a draft of updated Standards, entitled "Principles and Standards for School Mathematics" at http://www.nctm.org/standards/. You can download the draft from the web.
Journals
Educational Studies in Mathematics
This journal presents new ideas and developments of major importance to those working in the field of mathematical education. It reflects both the variety of research concerns within this discipline as well as the range of methods used to didactical, methodological and pedagogical subjects, rather than with specific programs for teaching mathematics.
